We’ve been installing quite a few concrete sleeper tracks recently, and this latest project at a dairy farm in Staffordshire is a great example of how much of a difference they can make to the day-to-day running of a farm.

The job involved creating a brand new track running down and around a steep bank, giving both livestock and machinery a much more reliable route to the fields below. As with any farm groundwork project, preparation was key. Once the ground had been excavated and prepared properly, the concrete sleepers were laid into place to create a strong, stable surface built to cope with heavy use all year round.

To finish the track, we installed posts and three strands of barbed wire along the boundary. This helps keep cattle contained and moving calmly in the right direction when being herded up and down the bank, while also making the route safer and more manageable for the farmer.

For dairy farms especially, access is everything. Whether it’s moving cows, getting machinery into fields for silaging or simply keeping things running smoothly during wet weather, having a dependable track in place saves time, reduces mess and makes everyday jobs far easier.

Concrete sleeper tracks have become increasingly popular because they offer a practical solution without creating a fully permanent roadway. Combined with the right groundwork and fencing, they provide a tidy, durable finish that stands up well to both livestock and machinery traffic.

At CPS, we carry out a wide range of agricultural groundworks across Staffordshire, Cheshire and the surrounding areas, including concrete sleeper tracks, drainage, fencing and farm infrastructure improvements. Every farm is different, so we always aim to provide practical solutions that work for both the land and the people using it every day.
