Case Study: Site Clearance & Flail Mowing | Stage One

The teams latest project in Cheshire involved some land that had been left without regular management for some time. With long grass, brambles and dense vegetation taking over across the fields. In places, the growth was almost up to the height of the tractor cab, so this wasn't quite a case of simply jumping on the flail and getting stuck in.
One of the first jobs was removing the ragwort. With it spread throughout the fields, it was all pulled by hand and removed before the flail mowing could begin ensuring no poisonous weeds were left for livestock or able to seed and cause further problems.
The fields were also home to an abundance of objects including old wheelbarrows, bins, electric fencing, fence posts and other materials all hidden amongst the vegetation. Everything able to be visually spotted was removed before an expensive machinery bill headed our way and the first pass round was done carefully and higher to enable us to grab any further obstacles. This was all removed off site to give the customer a 'clean field'.
Using the Teagle flail mower, the vegetation was gradually brought down over several passes. The height and density of the growth meant it needed to be approached carefully rather than simply cutting everything as low as possible in one go. Working through it gradually gave us a much cleaner finish and allowed anything we came across to be removed safely.
The result is a completely different looking piece of land, with the vegetation brought back under control, unwanted materials removed and the fields ready for the next stage.
And this is only Stage One.
The next part of the project will involve working on the existing hedges and trees, removing the old fencing and creating new paddocks.
There's still plenty to do, but the land now has a much better starting point for everything that comes next.
